The Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital (PSH) is on a mission to transform Fiji into a premier destination for health tourism, according to its founder and managing director, Parvish Kumar. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology and a team of specialist staff to cater to the health tourism market.
Mr. Kumar highlighted PSH’s commitment to aligning with the Fijian government’s vision for developing the health tourism sector. The establishment of a new cardiology department marks a significant step forward, evidenced by the successful completion of the hospital’s first open-heart surgery.
The 100-bed facility has recently celebrated a milestone with a successful triple coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) performed on 61-year-old Kusum Lata from Lautoka. The procedure, carried out by expert cardiothoracic surgeons, was completed without complications, and the patient showed remarkable recovery, being discharged just days later.
Located near Nadi International Airport, PSH aims to bolster Fiji’s health infrastructure to benefit both locals and medical tourists. Tourism Minister Viliame Gavoka underscored the potential of medical tourism, stating that it enables patients to seek cost-effective and quality healthcare abroad. He expressed hopes for Fiji to mirror successful medical tourism examples set by countries like India.
In 2022, only two percent of visitors engaged in health-related activities while in Fiji, but the government is actively promoting private investment in healthcare, offering incentives for the expansion of private hospitals. This includes provisions for duty-free entry of essential medical equipment, designed to attract investors to enhance private healthcare facilities.
Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji, emphasized the significance of showcasing Fiji’s healthcare capabilities to the global community. He remarked that the beautiful surroundings of Fiji also make it an ideal location for patients undergoing pre and post-recovery.
Dr. Ram Raju, former president of the Fiji College of General Practitioners and current president of the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, referred to the recent achievements as a promising starting point for advancing complex medical procedures. He sees immense growth potential in Fiji’s health tourism sector.
In summary, the Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital is positioning itself as a forerunner in medical tourism within Fiji, exemplifying the successful integration of world-class healthcare services in a stunning tropical locale. This endeavor not only provides top-notch medical care but also aims to attract and support international patients, contributing positively to Fiji’s economy and health infrastructure.
