Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the advanced Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. Known as one of Fiji’s most sophisticated hangars, this multi-million dollar facility is designed to accommodate high-end travelers visiting the Laucala Island Resort.
The establishment of the hangar reflects a strong partnership among the resort owner, the government, and local landowners, aimed at enhancing guest services and promoting national development goals.
During the inauguration, Prime Minister Rabuka expressed gratitude for the significant private investment, noting its adherence to international standards. He stated, “This state-of-the-art facility is not only a demonstration of our dedication to improving our aviation capabilities and premier guest services but also a symbol of our nation’s progress and innovation.”
Rabuka emphasized that the Air Laucala Hangar illustrates Fiji’s ambition to excel in aviation within the Pacific region. He remarked, “This facility will enhance our capacity to maintain and service aircraft, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable aviation operations.”
The Prime Minister also pointed out that the hangar will generate numerous job opportunities and stimulate economic growth, alongside fostering training and skill development for workers. He expressed appreciation to all contributors to the project, particularly local landowners.
The hangar is expected to provide young engineers and technicians with practical experience in modern aviation technologies, nurturing a new generation of skilled professionals for the industry.
Kevin Abramowicz, Director of Laucala Island Resort and Air Laucala, represented the owner and noted that the project’s vision was initially conceived by the late Dietrich Mateschitz. He highlighted that the facility will facilitate smooth transit for both international carriers and private jets.
Abramowicz further explained that the hangar is designed to reduce transit times and ensure comfort for visitors while also providing optimal working conditions for the Air Laucala team, situated close to industry experts at Nadi International Airport. He concluded by mentioning that the owner, Mark Mateschitz, remains dedicated to continuing his father’s legacy of development in Fiji.
