The Sugar Research Institute of Fiji (SRIF) has announced a collaborative partnership with Fiji Rice Limited aimed at boosting rice production in Fiji. Recently, both organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote integrated farming practices that align with the objectives of the sugarcane industry.

This collaboration aims to optimize the use of fallow land for rice cultivation, enhancing soil fertility and overall productivity. By integrating rice farming into their practices, farmers will have the opportunity to create an additional income stream, which Fiji Rice emphasizes as vital for local communities.

The joint initiative will enable farmers to cultivate rice alongside other crops, thereby maximizing land utilization while improving food security and elevating the livelihoods of farming communities. Furthermore, the partnership will provide education, training, and hands-on support to farmers, focusing on sustainable farming methods and the application of new technologies.

This partnership marks a positive step towards enhancing agricultural productivity in Fiji, contributing to economic stability and the well-being of local farming families. By encouraging diversification and innovation in farming practices, SRIF and Fiji Rice are paving the way for a more sustainable future in agriculture.
