The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has announced the appointment of its new Commissioner, Barbara Malimali, who expressed her readiness to lead the organization. Malimali has stepped down from her role as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, extending her well wishes to the team there.
Malimali brings extensive experience as a criminal lawyer to her new role, having been appointed by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere based on a recommendation from the Judicial Services Commission and in consultation with the Attorney-General’s Office. Her term officially began yesterday and will last for three years.
Notably, Malimali is the first woman to hold the Commissioner position, which was previously vacant following the resignation of former Commissioner Rashmi Aslam in September 2023. Addressing the recent developments, Malimali affirmed her commitment to fulfilling her legal responsibilities and expressed eagerness to undertake her new duties as Commissioner of FICAC.
