Fiji’s New Diplomatic Face: Meet High Commissioner Jackson Evans

Fiji’s President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, recently officiated the commissioning of Jackson Bernard Nato Evans as the High Commissioner Designate to Papua New Guinea. The event took place at the State House, where President Katonivere extended his congratulations to Evans on this significant diplomatic role and wished him success in his new duties.

Evans comes to this position with a wealth of experience, boasting over 35 years of service as a decorated military officer. Prior to his appointment as High Commissioner, he served as the Director of Force Development and Strategic Command for the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), a role he was reappointed to in 2011. His extensive military background also includes his time as the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment during a deployment in Iraq in May 2007.

Notable milestones in Evans’s career include his promotion to Colonel in 2008 and his role as Chief Staff Officer for Force Development at RFMF Headquarters in 2006. Throughout his service, he has been recognized with multiple awards, such as the MFO Peacekeeping Medal for his contributions in Egypt and the Multinational Forces Commanders Command Medal for Exemplary Leadership, which he received twice in late 1999 and early 2000.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, as well as Evans’s family, marking a momentous occasion in both Evans’s career and Fiji’s diplomatic relations.

This appointment stands to enhance Fiji’s representation in Papua New Guinea, furthering diplomatic ties and cooperation between the two nations as Evans leverages his extensive military experience in his new role.
