Nearly 15 stakeholders from the tourism sector have collectively contributed over $100,000, as well as media space and creative expertise, to launch Tourism Fiji’s ‘Bin It or Bag It’ litter-free Fiji campaign.
This initiative originated from the 2023 Fiji Tourism Convention and is spearheaded by several prominent organizations, including the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, The Holiday Inn, Rosie Holidays, and Ahura Resorts.
The ‘Bin It or Bag It’ campaign aims to promote responsible waste disposal among both Fijians and visitors. It encourages individuals to use waste bins when available, or alternatively to store their waste in a bag until they can dispose of it properly.
Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill expressed excitement about launching the campaign with committed partners. He emphasized that this undertaking reflects a dedication to sustainable tourism practices and highlights the shared responsibility of protecting Fiji’s environment.
As the campaign is implemented, stakeholders are hoping to instill the mindset of ‘Bin it or Bag it’ within the community. The initiative is designed to be straightforward yet effective, targeting the preservation of Fiji’s stunning natural landscapes and aiming to ignite an important conversation about maintaining a litter-free environment.
The campaign further engages local talent, including musician Kuki and designer Studio Lily Kate, alongside Tourism Fiji’s creative agency Havas. The integrated campaign features a memorable jingle and illustrations that showcase the unique culture of Fiji.
A significant aspect of the campaign is the introduction of ‘Kasikasi,’ a character in the illustrations who will act as a recognizable ambassador for responsible waste management.
