Fiji’s New Campaign: Bin It or Bag It – Join the Movement!

Nearly 15 stakeholders from the tourism sector have come together to contribute over $100,000, along with media space and creative expertise, to launch the ‘Bin It or Bag It’ litter-free campaign in Fiji, organized by Tourism Fiji.

This initiative originated from the 2023 Fiji Tourism Convention and is spearheaded by notable resorts and service providers including the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, The Holiday Inn, Rosie Holidays, and Ahura Resorts.

The ‘Bin It or Bag It’ campaign aims to encourage both Fijians and visitors to dispose of their waste responsibly, either by using designated bins or by storing their waste in bags until bins are available for proper disposal.

Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji, expressed excitement over this campaign, stating, “This initiative embodies our commitment to sustainable tourism practices and highlights the collective responsibility we share in safeguarding Fiji’s environment.” He urged everyone to adopt the ‘Bin it or Bag it’ philosophy as part of the community’s effort to maintain the natural beauty of Fiji.

The campaign is designed not only for its simplicity and effectiveness but also aims to foster an important conversation around litter-free practices within the community.

In collaboration with local talents such as musician Kuki and creative designer Studio Lily Kate, along with Tourism Fiji’s creative agency Havas, the campaign features a memorable jingle and distinctively Fijian illustrations. A standout element of the campaign is ‘Kasikasi,’ a character depicted in the illustrations, who is set to become a recognizable advocate for responsible waste management.
