The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has announced the appointment of Barbara Malimali as its new Commissioner, expressing confidence in her leadership. Malimali, who previously served as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, has resigned from that role and extended her best wishes to the Electoral Commission moving forward.

Malimali, a seasoned criminal lawyer, was appointed by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere following recommendations from the Judicial Services Commission and consultations with the Office of the Attorney-General. Her term as Commissioner will last for three years, having officially commenced yesterday.

Notably, Malimali is the first woman to hold the Commissioner position, which became vacant after the resignation of former Commissioner Rashmi Aslam in September 2023. In her first statements since taking office, Malimali emphasized her commitment to fulfilling her responsibilities in accordance with the law, and she expressed enthusiasm for her new role at FICAC.
