Peter Wise, the former permanent secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, has been nominated as Fiji’s new Ambassador to Japan. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. Wise will take over from Filimone Waqabaca, who is expected to lead the Fiji Development Bank upon his return to the country.

Wise resigned from his position as permanent secretary on September 25 for personal reasons. However, Prime Minister Rabuka revealed that a sexual harassment allegation was made against Wise, which has been forwarded to the Public Service Commission for review. Rabuka noted that Wise was made aware of the allegation, which contributed to his decision to resign.

Since January 2023, Wise has served as permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister and has held similar positions in past administrations.
