Peter Wise, the former permanent secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, has been designated as Fiji’s next Ambassador to Japan, as confirmed by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. Mr. Wise will succeed Filimone Waqabaca, who is anticipated to take the lead at the Fiji Development Bank upon his return to the country.

Mr. Wise stepped down from his position as permanent secretary on September 25 for personal reasons. However, Prime Minister Rabuka later revealed that a sexual harassment allegation had been lodged against him, which has been referred to the Public Service Commission. The Prime Minister mentioned that the issue was presented to Mr. Wise, prompting his voluntary resignation.

Having served as permanent secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office since January 2023, Mr. Wise has held similar positions in prior administrations.
