Fiji’s National Development Plan: Is the Cost Worth the Growth?

Paulo Ralulu, managing director of Pacific Operations, expressed support for the National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029, stating it will create a favorable environment for growth in Fiji’s private sector. During a panel discussion at the University of the South Pacific’s Laucala Campus on Tuesday, Ralulu described the plan as a significant advancement but emphasized the need for substantial funding for its effective implementation.

He questioned the financial implications of the plan, noting that while there is expertise available to execute it, the costs associated are critical. Ralulu acknowledged the thorough research underpinning many aspects of the NDP.

Additionally, he pointed out challenges posed by the increasing number of individuals leaving the country for various reasons, highlighting the resulting gaps that need to be addressed. In summary, Ralulu asserted that while the NDP represents real progress, managing its implementation costs will be crucial.
