The National Development Plan for 2025-2029 has been described as a “people’s plan,” resulting from comprehensive consultations with citizens across various sectors. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad made this announcement during the plan’s launch in Suva today.
Over 21,000 individuals contributed to the planning process, including representatives from civil society organizations, industry groups, disciplined forces, academics, students, and faith-based organizations. This extensive engagement aimed to grasp the concerns and gather insights from the community.
Professor Prasad emphasized that the plan encapsulates the aspirations and concerns of the populace, stating, “This plan therefore represents the aspiration of our people, reflects their concerns and what they want.” He highlighted that the primary goal is to enhance social well-being and foster sustainable prosperity for all citizens, ensuring that improvements in quality of life are felt universally without leaving anyone behind.
The Coalition Government, he noted, is establishing clear targets to achieve within three and five years. The focus for the first three years will be on critical issues requiring immediate attention, which includes providing clean drinking water, improving infrastructure such as roads and drainage systems, upgrading healthcare facilities, and ensuring affordable housing and educational infrastructure in the most affected areas.
Further details on this initiative will be available in the major bulletin at 6 PM on Fiji One.
