Fiji’s National Development Plan: A Vision Crafted by the People

The National Development Plan for 2025-2029 has been described as a “people’s plan,” shaped by extensive consultations with citizens across various sectors.

During the plan’s launch in Suva, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, highlighted that over 21,000 individuals, including representatives from civil society, industry groups, academic institutions, students, and religious organizations, contributed their insights and suggestions.

“This plan embodies the aspirations of our people, addressing their concerns and desires,” stated Prof Prasad. The primary goal of the plan is to enhance social well-being and foster sustainable prosperity for all citizens, ensuring that everyone experiences improvements in their quality of life without leaving anyone behind.

He noted that the Coalition Government aims to set clear achievement targets for the next three to five years. In the initial three-year period, the focus will be on urgent issues requiring immediate action, or “getting the basics right.” This includes essential services such as providing clean drinking water, enhancing road and drainage systems, upgrading healthcare facilities, ensuring affordable housing, and improving school infrastructure in the most affected areas.

Further details on this initiative will be covered in the evening bulletin at 6 PM on Fiji One.
