The National Development Plan for 2025-2029 has been labeled as the “people’s plan” following extensive consultations with a diverse range of citizens.
During the launch of the plan in Suva this morning, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, emphasized that over 21,000 individuals, including representatives from civil society organizations, industry groups, security forces, academia, students, and faith-based organizations, were engaged to better understand the people’s concerns and gather their ideas.
“This plan represents the aspirations of our people, reflecting their worries and desires,” stated Prof Prasad. He highlighted that the primary goal of the plan is to enhance social well-being and guarantee sustainable prosperity for the population.
He further stressed the importance of ensuring that everyone experiences a meaningful improvement in their quality of life, while also ensuring that no one feels excluded or deprived.
Professor Prasad noted that the Coalition Government is establishing clear targets for achievements over the next three to five years. In the first three years, the focus will be on addressing urgent issues and “getting the basics right,” which includes ensuring access to clean drinking water, improving infrastructure such as roads and drainage, upgrading healthcare services, providing affordable housing, and enhancing school facilities in the areas most impacted.
