Fiji’s National Development Plan: A Blueprint for Economic Prosperity and Unity

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, announced that both current and future generations in Fiji stand to benefit from enhanced economic growth and prosperity through the National Development Plan (NDP) 2025-2029, which aims to be a transformative force. He emphasized that this initiative allows all citizens, regardless of background, to actively contribute to and enjoy the fruits of national progress.

During the launch of the NDP 2025-2029 in Suva, Kamikamica articulated the government’s vision encapsulated in the theme “Empowering the People of Fiji through Unity,” which he described as a deep reflection of the nation’s aspirations. He stated that this vision promotes a shared purpose among all citizens, ensuring everyone has the chance to participate in and benefit from the country’s advancements.

Kamikamica highlighted that the development of key foundational pillars for Fiji’s future progress involves a thoughtful process. The Plan is structured around three essential pillars:

1. Economic Resilience – Diversifying the economy through innovation, research, and technology to strengthen resilience against future economic disruptions.
2. People Empowerment – Addressing developmental disparities to guarantee that all Fijians have access to essential services, encouraging their active involvement in nation-building.
3. Good Governance – Upholding accountability, transparency, and the rule of law to safeguard democratic values.

The NDP also aligns with international and regional agreements, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, underlining Fiji’s commitment to regional leadership and its role as a commercial and trade hub in the Pacific.

Kamikamica concluded by asserting that the successful rollout of the National Development Plan is essential for Fiji’s upcoming phase of development and relies heavily on the involvement of all Fijians.
