Over a thousand attendees gathered at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday for the first day of the George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso Homecoming concert.
A lively queue formed outside the entrance before 3 PM, creating a buzz of excitement. The concert drew both local and international guests, positioning Fiji as a dynamic hub for music and culture.
The opening acts included international artists Lomez Brown, Junior Soqeta, Justin Wellinton, and Jaro Local, who energized the crowd, encouraging sing-alongs. Despite the long wait, concertgoers joyfully chanted and sang along to beloved tracks from iconic Pacific Island stars JBoog and George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso, resulting in a night filled with satisfied fans.
Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji, mentioned that events like these significantly enhance Fiji’s local economy and highlight its unique appeal and hospitable nature.
“People travel to see their favorite artists, and we are aware of many tourists arriving from the Pacific Islands, Aotearoa, Australia, and even the US for this concert,” he stated. “We certainly promote these events and look forward to collaborating with more promoters to continue bringing musical talent to Fiji, contributing greatly to our economy and lifestyle.”
Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka spoke about the concert’s positive impact on local businesses, ranging from hospitality to retail, which benefit from the influx of concertgoers.
“This event goes beyond a musical celebration; it’s a significant milestone for Fiji’s tourism sector,” Mr. Gavoka remarked. “As our tourism industry expands, hosting such prominent events emphasizes our capability to deliver world-class entertainment and cultural experiences.”
He also highlighted the importance of George Veikoso’s homecoming concert in celebrating the nation’s rich cultural heritage and the international success of one of its prominent figures.
The two-day concert is scheduled to conclude today.
