The Republic of Fiji Military Force (RFMF) is set to resume its Phase 2 of the reconciliation and restoration program early next year. This phase aims to focus on community engagement and outreach to foster reconciliation.

The initiative will concentrate on raising awareness about past events within communities that were affected during the coups in Fiji. RFMF Commander Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai emphasized the importance of this phase as the military seeks to rebuild trust and understanding with the public.

Major-General Kalouniwai stated, “Phase 2 will be significant as we will visit communities to engage in conversations, listen to their stories of survival, and promote institutional reconciliation.” He further noted that this phase will serve as an opportunity for the RFMF to heal and to sincerely apologize to the Fijian people.

The focus on community-based reconciliation is a hopeful step towards mending past grievances and fostering a sense of unity among Fijians. By engaging with locals, the RFMF demonstrates a commitment to transparency and accountability, aiming to strengthen the relationship between the military and the communities it serves.

Overall, this initiative represents a proactive approach to healing and building a more harmonious society in Fiji, paving the way for a brighter future.
