Fiji’s Military: More Than Just Uniforms?

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) continues to be a significant institution in Fiji, with many responsibilities for the country. Commander Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai emphasized that the military encompasses much more than just “uniforms and guns.” In an interview on The Lens@177, he noted that there has been extensive dialogue about the RFMF’s productivity. He highlighted the military’s essential contributions to peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief efforts. “People often evaluate productivity in monetary terms, but the RFMF approaches things differently,” he stated. He also mentioned that if given the opportunity, he would consider increasing the recruitment of officers.
