The Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua, traveled to Australia on Thursday to officially accept the new Guardian-class patrol boat, RFNS Timo. This vessel replaces the now-decommissioned RFNS Puamau, which tragically ran aground on Fulaga Reef, Lau, during a routine journey on June 10, merely a month after being donated to Fiji by the Australian government.
Minister Tikoduadua emphasized that the introduction of the RFNS Timo to Fiji’s maritime fleet significantly enhances the country’s capability to safeguard its waters, protect natural resources, and maintain regional security. He highlighted that this development is a reflection of the strong partnership and mutual commitment between Fiji and Australia.
This collaboration not only bolsters Fiji’s maritime capabilities but also serves as a reminder of the importance of regional alliances in ensuring the safety and security of shared waters.
In summary, this new addition to Fiji’s naval fleet underscores a positive and ongoing relationship between Fiji and Australia, promising improved security for the region. The countries’ dedication to working together emphasizes a hopeful outlook for maritime cooperation in the future.
