The Cabinet has approved a review of the Mahogany Industry Development Act 2010 (MIDA 2010) and the Mahogany Industry (Licensing and Branding) Act 2011 (MILBA 2011). Acting Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica stated that MIDA 2010 established the Mahogany Industry Council, while MILBA 2011 addresses the licensing and branding elements of Fiji Mahogany. Kamikamica noted that the Mahogany Industry Taskforce Review Committee, formed in March 2024, has recommended this legislative review to tackle challenges faced by stakeholders in the mahogany sector. The review aims to assess the role of the Mahogany Industry Council and promote further growth of the mahogany industry, enhancing the recognition of the quality of Fiji’s hardwood products both domestically and internationally.
