The Cabinet has approved a review of the Mahogany Industry Development Act 2010 (MIDA 2010) and the Mahogany Industry (Licensing and Branding) Act 2011 (MILBA 2011). Acting Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica stated that the MIDA 2010 established the Mahogany Industry Council, while the MILBA 2011 outlines the licensing and branding regulations for Fijian mahogany.

Kamikamica noted that the Mahogany Industry Taskforce Review Committee, formed in March 2024, has recommended this legislative review to address the challenges faced by stakeholders in the mahogany sector. The review aims to assess the functions of the Mahogany Industry Council and to facilitate the growth of the mahogany industry, as well as enhance the recognition of Fiji’s hardwood products both in domestic and international markets.
