Fiji’s Leadership Renewed: Six Permanent Secretaries Reappointed

The Public Service Commission, with the support of the Prime Minister, has confirmed the reappointment of six Permanent Secretaries following a thorough recruitment process. PSC Chairperson Luke Rokovada stated that these officials will guide their respective ministries into a new phase of growth and development.

The decision to reappoint these Permanent Secretaries was made after a rigorous recruitment process, with the Commission determining that their extensive understanding of their ministries, proven success records, and forward-thinking visions positioned them as the best candidates for continued leadership.

The reappointments include Pita Tagicakirewa as Permanent Secretary for I-Taukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts until November 2025, and Seema Sharma as Permanent Secretary for Local Government until December 2025. Yogesh Karan will serve as Permanent Secretary for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and the Sugar Industry until December 2025, while Shaheen Ali has been reappointed as Permanent Secretary for Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications until December 2025.

Susan Kiran will continue as Secretary to Cabinet until June 2026 and has also taken on the role of Permanent Secretary for Information starting September 2, 2024. Dr. Raijeli Taga has been reappointed as Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources, with plans for reassignment to a new ministry in October 2024.

Rokovada highlighted that all reappointed Permanent Secretaries are Fijian nationals, showcasing Fiji’s growing talent pool and the Civil Service’s effectiveness in attracting and retaining high-quality professionals.
