Fiji’s Leadership Reinforced: Six Permanent Secretaries Reappointed

The Public Service Commission, in collaboration with the Prime Minister, has announced the reappointment of six Permanent Secretaries following a thorough recruitment process.

In a statement, PSC Chairperson Luke Rokovada emphasized that these individuals will guide their respective ministries into a new phase of growth and development. The decision for their reappointment was based on the Commission’s finding that these Permanent Secretaries possess a deep understanding of their ministries, a proven history of success, and a strong vision for the future.

The reappointed officials include Pita Tagicakirewa as Permanent Secretary for I-Taukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts until November 2025; Seema Sharma as Permanent Secretary for Local Government through December 2025; and Yogesh Karan, who will serve as Permanent Secretary for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry until December 2025.

Shaheen Ali has been reappointed as Permanent Secretary for Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications until December 2025. Susan Kiran will continue as Secretary to Cabinet until June 2026 and will also take on the role of Permanent Secretary for Information starting September 2, 2024. Dr. Raijeli Taga has been reappointed as Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources until her transfer to a new Ministry in October 2024.

Rokovada noted that all reappointed Permanent Secretaries are Fijian nationals, highlighting Fiji’s growing talent pool and the Civil Service’s effectiveness in attracting and retaining highly qualified personnel.
