Fiji’s Leaders Reappointed: A New Era for Permanent Secretaries

The Public Service Commission, with the Prime Minister’s endorsement, has announced the reappointment of six Permanent Secretaries following a thorough recruitment process. PSC Chairperson Luke Rokovada stated that these officials will continue to guide their respective ministries into future growth and development.

Rokovada emphasized that the decision to reappoint these individuals was made after a comprehensive and rigorous evaluation, concluding that they are well-suited to lead due to their extensive knowledge of their ministries, proven success, and a clear vision for what lies ahead.

The reappointed Permanent Secretaries include Pita Tagicakirewa for I-Taukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage, and Arts, serving until November 2025; Seema Sharma for Local Government until December 2025; Yogesh Karan for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and the Sugar Industry until December 2025; and Shaheen Ali for Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications until December 2025.

Additionally, Susan Kiran has been reappointed as Secretary to Cabinet, serving until June 2026, and has also taken on the role of Permanent Secretary for Information, effective September 2, 2024. Dr. Raijeli Taga has been reappointed as Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources until her reassignment in October 2024.

Rokovada noted that all reappointed Permanent Secretaries are Fijian nationals, highlighting the growth of Fiji’s talent pool and the Civil Service’s effectiveness in attracting and retaining high-quality personnel.
