Fiji’s Inspector Mavis Fatiaki Takes on New Role in Australia for Pacific Police Cooperation

Inspector Mavis Fatiaki departs today for Canberra, Australia, to uphold the esteemed tradition of secondment duties with the Australian Federal Police as part of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC) Programme.

A graduate of the 2013 Cadet Program, Inspector Fatiaki holds a Master’s degree in International Policing, specializing in Public Security, from the People’s Public Security University in Beijing, China. She has previously served as Station Officer at Vunidawa and most recently at the Korovou Police Station.

Her selection resulted from a stringent process competing with law enforcement personnel from across the region. The secondment, facilitated by the Solesolevaki Memorandum of Understanding between the Australian Federal Police and the Fiji Police Force, sees Inspector Fatiaki join a dynamic group of young Fiji Police officers in the PCLEC Delivery Capability Team (DCT). This team focuses on coordinating Pacific-led capability development initiatives tailored for Pacific Police organizations.

Since its establishment in 2020, the DCT has aimed to implement strategic initiatives that align with the priorities set by the PICP, following the core PCLEC principles of “By the Pacific, for the Pacific,” reflecting the values and mission of the PICP.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew expressed that Inspector Fatiaki’s selection was unsurprising, given her accomplishments as a rising leader and her demonstrated capabilities. He extended the organization’s best wishes for her six-month secondment, highlighting her role in continuing the Fiji Police’s proud tradition of supporting fellow law enforcement agencies across the Pacific.
