Fiji’s Inspector Fatiaki Takes Leap Into International Policing

Inspector Mavis Fatiaki is departing today for Canberra, Australia, to further the proud tradition of secondment duties with the Australian Federal Police as part of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC) Programme.

IP Fatiaki, who graduated from the 2013 Cadet Program, holds a Master’s degree in International Policing with a focus on Public Security from the People’s Public Security University in Beijing, China. She has previously served as the Station Officer at both Vunidawa and, more recently, Korovou Police Stations.

Her selection was the result of a rigorous competitive process involving law enforcement officers from across the region. This secondment, facilitated by the Solesolevaki Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Australian Federal Police and the Fiji Police Force, enables IP Fatiaki to join a growing number of young Fijian police officers working with the PCLEC Delivery Capability Team (DCT) to support regionally led, tailored capacity-building initiatives for Pacific law enforcement agencies.

Established in 2020, the DCT is responsible for coordinating Pacific capacity initiatives aligned with strategic priorities set by the PICP, embodying the PCLEC core values which emphasize a “By the Pacific, for the Pacific” approach.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew commented that IP Mavis’ selection was not unexpected, highlighting her accomplishments as a budding leader and evidence of her skills. He extended best wishes for her six-month secondment, noting her role in continuing the Fiji Police’s proud commitment to supporting fellow law enforcement agencies in the Pacific region.
