Fiji’s Hibiscus Festival: A Celebration of Resilience and Community Spirit

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) is making significant efforts to change its “coup image.” This initiative was highlighted by Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, who noted that such a perception has impacted how the RFMF is viewed by the public. He emphasized the importance of transforming the RFMF into a more professional military that emphasizes ethical behavior among its officers and soldiers.

In other news, the Hibiscus Festival drew attendees in Suva despite early morning rain and strong winds that caused some disruptions. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The final day of the festival saw people gathering in large numbers, demonstrating the enduring significance of the event in the community.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka crowned Melania Tora as Miss Hibiscus 2024, much to the delight of the crowd. Fireworks provided a celebratory end to the evening.

The chairman of the Hibiscus Festival, Opetaia Ravai, remarked on the revitalizing effect of the festival on Suva, especially following the hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed confidence in the festival’s growth and improvement in the years to come.
