The Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital (PSH) is poised to fulfill the Fiji Government’s vision of transforming Fiji into a premier health tourism hub, according to founder and managing director Parvish Kumar. The hospital is now fully equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology and specialty staff, catering specifically to a targeted segment of tourists seeking medical care.

Mr. Kumar emphasized the hospital’s commitment to aligning with the government’s initiative to enhance the health tourism sector, proudly announcing the establishment of a new cardiology department and the successful completion of the hospital’s first open-heart surgery. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the 100-bed facility, which boasts advanced medical equipment and a team of highly trained specialists.

In a noteworthy case, 61-year-old Kusum Lata from Natabua underwent a successful coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) procedure conducted by a skilled team of cardiovascular specialists. The triple graft surgery was completed without any complications, and Ms. Lata was discharged just a few days later, demonstrating impressive recovery progress.

The hospital’s location near Nadi International Airport positions it well for attracting medical tourists. Tourism Minister Viliame Gavoka underscored the necessity of enhancing Fiji’s health infrastructure to better serve both local residents and international medical travelers. He noted that medical tourism often stems from factors such as affordability, treatment availability, and quality care, with Fiji aiming to follow in the footsteps of successful medical tourism destinations like India.

In 2022, approximately two percent of visitors to Fiji participated in health and medical activities. Minister Gavoka has highlighted the government’s efforts to incentivize private investment in healthcare through attractive investment packages that facilitate the establishment or expansion of private hospitals.

Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji, expressed the importance of patients worldwide recognizing the medical capabilities available in Fiji, promoting the idea that the nation is an ideal place for recovery due to its beautiful surroundings.

Dr. Ram Raju, former president of the Fiji College of General Practitioners and current president of the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, hailed the recent developments as a promising start for complex medical procedures and the positioning of Fiji as a high-quality health tourism destination. He acknowledged the timing and opportunities presented in this burgeoning sector.

This article showcases not just a significant stride for healthcare in Fiji, but also reinforces the potential for further growth in health tourism, which can benefit the economy and improve medical services for both locals and visitors alike.

In summary, Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital is leading the way in enhancing Fiji’s medical tourism, demonstrating its capabilities through successful surgeries and a commitment to quality healthcare while contributing to the local economy and infrastructure.
