A new initiative aimed at promoting sustainable tourism in Fiji, which is expected to benefit over 60,000 individuals, is set to be launched soon, as announced by World Bank President Ajay Banga. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Fijian Government, is one of the key topics Banga is discussing with stakeholders during his visit.
During his tour of Nuffield Health Clinic in Tamavua, Banga emphasized the World Bank’s commitment to addressing various issues with Fiji, including healthcare challenges and climate resilience. He highlighted the importance of diversifying Fiji’s economy to create job opportunities for youth, encouraging them to remain in the country and contribute to its growth.
Banga noted that this effort requires a vibrant private sector, and he plans to engage with private sector representatives to explore ways to enhance their contributions alongside government support. He revealed that the tourism development scheme focused on sustainable tourism will be launched either this month or next, with the potential to positively impact a large number of people in Fiji once it is fully operational.
