Fiji’s Future: World Bank Backs Ambitious Development Agenda

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad held a meeting today with World Bank Vice President for the East Asia and Pacific region, Manuella Ferro, on the sidelines of the 2024 IMF/World Bank Group Annual Meetings.

Their discussions centered on significant government priorities outlined in the National Development Plan, which include enhancing health service delivery, promoting quality education, developing climate-resilient infrastructure, and improving overall living standards.

VP Ferro expressed the World Bank’s commitment to collaborate with the Australian Government and the Asian Development Bank in advancing the redevelopment of the CWM Hospital.

Additionally, there will be an emphasis on tackling the current public health crisis by increasing investments in primary health care facilities and enhancing nationwide awareness and response efforts.

VP Ferro praised Fiji’s proactive approach and reaffirmed the World Bank’s ongoing support through technical assistance, financing, and capacity-building initiatives to meet these objectives. She assured Professor Prasad of the Bank’s backing for the National Development Plan and the continued partnership aimed at fostering Fiji’s development.
