Fiji’s First Open Heart Surgery: A Lifeline for the Underprivileged

Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH), Fiji’s only locally owned private hospital, is set to conduct its inaugural open-heart surgery. The confirmation came from PSH’s Director and CEO, Parvish Kumar.

To assist underprivileged individuals who are unable to afford this significant surgery, Kumar has extended an invitation for them to reach out to him via email at p.kumar@psh.com.fj. There are specific criteria that need to be met to qualify for either a fully subsidized or highly discounted procedure, including certain cardiac requirements.

Patients interested in undergoing the surgery must have completed an angiogram and fulfilled all necessary medical evaluations. They are encouraged to send their angiogram results and medical reports for assessment. Additionally, those in need of angiogram services can also get in touch with PSH.

Kumar emphasized the importance of direct communication to create tailored service plans in collaboration with the cardiac team at PSH.

The hospital’s operating theater is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, having received high praise from visiting Indian cardiologists who have deemed it world-class. The cost of open-heart procedures at PSH is expected to be competitive with prices in India and other locations.

PSH’s Nadi branch is situated on the Queen’s Highway, opposite Nadi International Airport, while the Suva branch can be found at 107 Foster Road in Walu Bay. Notably, cardiac services are exclusively available at the Nadi branch, whereas other advanced medical services, including neurosurgery, urology, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, and orthopedics, are offered at both branches.

PSH is dedicated to providing high-quality medical care and the latest medical equipment, which contributes to better surgical outcomes and quicker recovery times. “At PSH, we value your health and well-being and prioritize prompt treatment to facilitate your full recovery,” Kumar stated.
