Fiji’s Film Industry Set to Shine: A New Era of Local Talent and Creativity

The Audio-Visual and Film industry is receiving significant attention in Fiji’s new National Development Plan. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Professor Biman Prasad, made this announcement during the premiere launch of the locally produced film “Langha Phobia,” which focuses on the themes of trust and respect in marriage, held at Life Cinema in Nakasi.

Professor Prasad emphasized the growth potential of Fiji’s Audio-Visual and Film industry, which is becoming increasingly vital. He noted that Fiji is emerging as a favored production location globally due to its beautiful islands, vibrant marine life, rich culture, and heritage.

One of the Coalition Government’s main priorities is to enhance the development of local talent through education and training. The government has been supporting local universities to foster talent, arts, and skill development through various programs and courses.

The new National Development Plan is termed ‘The People’s Plan,’ reflecting the aspirations of the people to improve their socio-economic well-being.

Professor Prasad stressed the necessity of creating a supportive environment for Fiji’s filmmakers, enabling them to hone their skills and thus bolster the growth of the film industry. He noted that films are a universal language that connect people across different cultures, nationalities, ages, and social backgrounds.

He acknowledged the Director, Producer, and the entire cast and crew for their dedication and hard work in bringing the vision of “Langha Phobia” to fruition. Professor Prasad also highlighted that every film created by Mr. Vimal Reddy carries an authentic Fijian essence, delivering strong social messages that resonate with local audiences and challenge societal barriers.
