The Audio-Visual and Film industry has been made a key focus in Fiji’s new National Development Plan, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Hon. Professor Biman Prasad. He made these remarks at the premiere of the locally produced film “Langha Phobia,” which is centered on the theme of “Trust and respect in a marriage,” held at Life Cinema in Nakasi.

Professor Prasad emphasized the growing potential of Fiji’s Audio-Visual and Film industry, noting its increasing significance. He pointed out that Fiji is becoming a favored production location globally due to its stunning islands, rich marine life, and vibrant culture and heritage.

One of the Coalition Government’s main priorities is to foster local talent through education and training. “The Government has been providing substantial support to our local universities to nurture local talents and skills development through various programs and courses,” he stated.

He described the new National Development Plan as “The People’s Plan,” reflecting the aspirations of the public to improve their socio-economic well-being. He stressed the necessity of creating an environment that allows Fiji filmmakers to refine their skills, which will contribute to the industry’s growth.

“Films communicate a universal language, connecting people across diverse cultures, nationalities, ages, and social standings,” said Professor Prasad. He highlighted the role of cinema as a contemporary art form that breaks down barriers and emphasizes shared values and emotions, making it a powerful storytelling medium.

Professor Prasad recognized the Director, Producer, and the entire cast and crew for their dedication and hard work in bringing the film to fruition. He particularly praised Mr. Vimal Reddy, noting that each of his films carries an authentic Fijian essence and meaningful social messages that resonate with the local audience and help challenge societal barriers.
