Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad emphasized the importance of providing a supportive environment for Fijian filmmakers to enhance their skills, which he believes is crucial for the growth of the country’s film industry. Speaking at the premiere of the locally made movie “Langha Phobia” at Life Cinema in Nakasi last Friday, Prof Prasad noted that Fiji is increasingly recognized as a desirable location for film production globally.
He stated that the government’s focus is on nurturing local talent through education and training initiatives. “Fiji is becoming one of the preferred production locations in the world, celebrated for its stunning islands, rich marine life, and vibrant culture and heritage,” he said.
Prof Prasad highlighted the unifying power of films, which transcend differences in culture, nationality, age, and socioeconomic status. He mentioned the government’s significant investments in universities aimed at fostering local talent and advancing arts and skills development through various programs. He also referred to the new National Development Plan, calling it a reflection of the people’s aspirations and a commitment to improving their socio-economic conditions.
