Despite these obstacles, he commended the unwavering commitment and passion of the players who have made sacrifices in the development of women’s rugby in Fiji.
To further support this initiative, the Fijian government has allocated over $4.2 million in the current budget to promote rugby at all levels. Saukuru reinforced that as the players prepare for what lies ahead, they carry the hopes and dreams of the nation, ensuring them of the people’s steadfast support.
The Fijiana women’s sevens team is set to depart for Dubai on Sunday and will compete in Pool A against Ireland, China, and Australia.
This escalating support and investment in women’s rugby not only enhances the sport’s profile but also uplifts women in sports, showcasing that perseverance can lead to growth and recognition. The upcoming tournament presents a chance for these athletes to shine and inspire future generations.
In summary, Minister Saukuru’s positive outlook exemplifies the commitment to advancing women’s rugby in Fiji, highlighting both the progress made and the dedication needed as they head into international competition.
