Fiji’s public broadcaster has secured an exclusive window to the world’s biggest football tournament: the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) will air the FIFA World Cup 2026 live and exclusively on FBC Sports, the network announced on Friday. The deal guarantees Fijian viewers access to every match of the expanded 48‑nation tournament, which is co‑hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico and begins next month.

The tournament officially kicks off on June 11, 2026 in North America. Because of time‑zone differences, FBC says the first fixture that will be broadcast for local audiences is the opening match between Mexico and South Africa, scheduled to air at 6:45am on Friday, June 12. Coverage will continue through to the final in July, with FBC promising live broadcasts across its television and digital platforms.

FBC Television General Manager Sitiveni Halofaki hailed the exclusive rights as a major win for sports fans in Fiji, saying the corporation’s commitment reflects a broader drive to bring “world‑class sporting content” to the islands. “Football has a way of bringing people together like nothing else. At FBC, we’re proud to bring that experience exclusively to viewers across Fiji. From June 11, every goal, every upset, and every big moment will be live on FBC Sports,” Halofaki said, adding the broadcaster will invest in an immersive, accessible presentation so fans can follow matches at home, at work or on the move.

FBC said promotional programming and build‑up coverage will roll out across FBC TV, FBC Sports and its digital channels in the coming weeks to keep viewers informed ahead of kickoff. The corporation emphasised that the exclusive deal covers live broadcasts of the tournament’s matches, effectively making FBC the sole local television home for the 2026 World Cup in Fiji.

The World Cup in 2026 marks a significant change from previous editions: it’s the first to feature 48 teams and a multi‑nation hosting arrangement spanning three countries. Analysts and football officials have called the expanded format the largest in the tournament’s history, promising more games and broader global participation. FIFA President Gianni Infantino and other organisers have positioned the event as a milestone intended to widen the sport’s reach and deliver heightened fan engagement across host cities.

This announcement is the latest development in local coverage plans for major international football events. For Fijians, the exclusive arrangement removes uncertainty over where to watch the World Cup and sets expectations for a concentrated national viewing experience centred on FBC’s outlets. With the tournament less than a month away, broadcasters and fans alike will now shift focus to programming schedules, commentary teams and studio formats as final preparations accelerate toward the June kickoff.
