Fiji’s Evacuation Centers Activate: 312 Seek Shelter Tonight

The Fiji National Disaster Risk Management Office has reported that 312 individuals are currently seeking refuge in six evacuation centers. These measures are in response to ongoing challenges faced by residents in the Western Division due to recent adverse conditions.

According to NDRMO, the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) have been fully activated to coordinate relief efforts. The designated evacuation centers include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, Vou Dance Group Office, Nalele Village Community Hall, and Tavua District Primary School, which together are sheltering a total of 73 households.

In addition to providing a safe haven for evacuees, the Western Divisional EOC and NEOC are also focused on distributing essential supplies to those sheltered in these centers. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) based in Nadi are collaborating with the Divisional EOC to bolster the government’s initiatives aimed at supporting those impacted.

This reported unity and proactive response from local authorities and NGOs underline the resilience of the community in the face of adversity, showcasing a collective effort to ensure safety and support for those in need.
