Fijian captain Estelle Kainamoli continues to excel after guiding her country to a silver medal in the 3×3 event at the 2023 Pacific Games. She is currently attending the inaugural FIBA 3×3 High-Performance Camp in Gold Coast, Australia, a program initiated by FIBA Oceania to promote “Women in Basketball.”
This camp assembles over 70 female participants from 15 national federations throughout the Pacific, focusing on enhancing skills on and off the court. Kainamoli expressed her enthusiasm about the experience, stating, “The camp has been a great experience. I’ve learned so much, not just about basketball, but also about mental health, nutrition, and emotional well-being.”
Fiji’s contingent at the camp includes coach Sera Vugakoto, players Camari Ravai, Ranadi Koroi, Moana Liebregts, and referee Ella Koroi. The initiative aims to advance the 3×3 basketball discipline, recognized as the fastest-growing urban sport globally.
Kainamoli, who is in her third year of university, is optimistic about the future of 3×3 basketball in the Pacific. She remarked, “3×3 is a great sport for us because it’s easier to form teams. It’s fast-paced and unpredictable, which adds excitement.” Looking ahead, Kainamoli and her teammates have their sights set on the 2025 Mini Games in Palau, where they aspire to secure a gold medal.
