Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has emphasized that 2025 will mark a significant milestone in Fiji’s history as the country prepares to celebrate its Emerald Jubilee, commemorating 55 years of independence. In his New Year’s message, Rabuka expressed optimism, stating that despite potential challenges, he believes 2025 will usher in renewed strength, hope, and confidence, which are essential for the nation’s prosperity and unity.

He encouraged Fijians to maintain a spirit of optimism, positivity, and patriotism, highlighting the importance of faith in God, the people, and the nation. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the inspiration found in the first verse of Fiji’s national anthem, which encourages this sense of hope and unity among citizens.

Rabuka also recognized the efforts of civil servants, first responders, and members of the disciplined forces for their commitment to maintaining safety and law enforcement throughout the year. He lauded the contributions of those in peacekeeping roles abroad and those partaking in humanitarian efforts, such as the advanced team sent to Vanuatu.

Looking ahead, Rabuka pointed out that an important focus will be on establishing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which aims to foster truth-telling, healing, and strengthen social cohesion. Furthermore, on an international level, Fiji will continue to advocate for the concept of an Ocean of Peace, a fundamental aspect of the nation’s foreign policy.

This positive vision for the future, coupled with initiatives aimed at social healing and international cooperation, offers a hopeful outlook for Fiji as it approaches this significant anniversary. The Prime Minister’s message encourages unity and collective effort toward a brighter future for all Fijians.
