Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has declared that 2025 will mark a significant milestone in Fiji’s history as the nation celebrates its Emerald Jubilee, commemorating 55 years of independence. In his New Year message, Rabuka acknowledged that while the year ahead may present its challenges, he remains optimistic that it will embody a renewed sense of strength, hope, and confidence essential for fostering prosperity and unity within the country.
He emphasized the importance of optimism, positivity, and patriotism, encouraging all citizens to place their faith in Almighty God, their fellow countrymen, and the nation itself. He noted that the first verse of Fiji’s national anthem evokes a sense of hope and national pride.
As the new year begins, Rabuka encourages the people to focus on love and forgiveness, aiming to build a future rooted in unity and goodwill among all Fijians. He expressed gratitude towards civil servants, first responders, and members of the disciplined forces for their dedication to maintaining safety and order throughout the previous year.
Furthermore, he commended those serving in peacekeeping missions around the world, including Fiji’s advanced team in Vanuatu, recognizing their commitment to humanitarian efforts.
On a local level, a significant focus will be on establishing a Truth and Reconciliation Commission aimed at fostering truth-telling, healing, and restoration of social relationships. Internationally, Fiji will continue to advocate for the “Ocean of Peace” concept, which is a fundamental aspect of the nation’s foreign policy.
This hopeful outlook emphasizes the potential for growth, understanding, and unity in the coming years, inspiring all Fijians to work collaboratively towards a brighter future.
