Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the Cabinet has reached a consensus to conduct public consultations regarding the potential reintroduction of scaling in national examinations for both primary and secondary school students. In his statement, PM Rabuka noted that any decision on the reintroduction of scaling will be made following this consultation process. He explained that the scaling system was first implemented in 1979 for the Fiji Seventh Form Certificate Examination and in 1989 for the Fiji School Leaving Certificate Examination. This system aimed to establish equivalence among subjects. However, it was discontinued in 2015.
