The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, plans to meet with Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad and Minister for Labour Agni Deo Singh to convene a Special Council Meeting for the University of the South Pacific (USP).
Radrodro aims to address various issues, particularly focusing on the welfare and concerns of Fijian staff at USP. He has directed the matter involving the termination of staff by USP to the Ministry of Employment for further action.
“I intend to resolve the issues raised concerning the welfare of Fijian staff, particularly regarding terminations and threats of strikes, by calling a special meeting of the University,” Radrodro stated.
He emphasized the Government’s respect for the Prime Minister and all member countries of the USP Council, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the effective functioning of USP, while prioritizing the welfare of both teachers and students to foster a conducive learning and working environment. Radrodro also mentioned that he has kept the Prime Minister informed about the ongoing situation at USP.
