The Ministry of Education is set to revive the interview process for Year 13 students interested in enrolling in teacher training institutions across Fiji. This initiative, which involves collaboration with Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS), aims to attract the most qualified candidates to the teaching profession.

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro described this initiative as a significant opportunity for Year 13 graduates aspiring to shape the future of education in Fiji. With the growing demand for skilled teachers, he emphasized the importance of rigorous teacher training programs designed to draw in passionate individuals.

This move is aligned with the Denarau Declaration for 2024-2033, which focuses on enhancing partnerships among TTIs and stakeholders to ensure graduates equipped with the essential knowledge and skills are prepared to excel in their roles. Radrodro underscored the vital role of teachers in fostering a vibrant educational environment and highlighted the opportunity for new educators to inspire future generations.

Current priority areas for teacher shortages highlighted by the Ministry include primary education, special and inclusive education, as well as subjects like biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, computer science, and various arts disciplines. The application deadline for the TSLS online application is set for January 31, 2025.

The ministry, in tandem with TTIs, will conduct two interview rounds to ensure a thorough selection process. Details regarding the interview dates and locations will be communicated to eligible students via email and phone.

This initiative is a beacon of hope for Fiji’s education sector, promising to enhance the quality of education by bringing in dedicated and qualified teachers who are passionate about making a difference in their communities.

In summary, the revival of the interview process for teacher training enrollment aims to attract committed candidates to address the growing demand for teachers in Fiji. Through this initiative, the Ministry of Education is taking proactive steps to bolster the educational landscape in the country.
