Fiji’s Education Act Set for Major Overhaul: What to Expect?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced that the Cabinet has approved a review of the Education Act 1966. In his statement, Rabuka emphasized that this Act is the primary legislation guiding education provision and administration in Fiji, and a detailed review has been needed for some time.

The purpose of the review is to ensure the Act remains relevant by aligning it with the current educational landscape, addressing the changing needs of students, teachers, parents, and the wider community, and tackling any educational issues that may have arisen since its last update. The Prime Minister indicated that this comprehensive review will involve a nationwide consultation process.
