The Fiji Police Force is continuously recording daily incidents of illegal drug possession, with marijuana being the most frequently confiscated substance. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations (ACP) Livai Driu, indicated that most of the individuals arrested are in their 20s and 30s.
In addition to confiscations from surprise searches and home raids, ACP Driu reported that eighteen cases have been logged from the 18th to the present across all five divisions, including a farm where suspected marijuana plants were removed. While marijuana remains the predominant drug found, there have been a few instances involving methamphetamine as well.
ACP Driu highlighted the increasing support from the community, with more requests for police-led awareness initiatives in partnership with various organizations. He underscored the significance of maintaining public trust, ensuring that police officers act with integrity and contribute to the solution in the battle against drugs.
The public is urged to report information by calling 917 or Crime Stoppers at 919.
