Fiji’s Drug Crisis: More Arrests and Community Action Needed

The Fiji Police Force is consistently encountering daily incidents related to the illegal possession of drugs, with marijuana being the most frequently confiscated substance. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Livai Driu, reported that the majority of those arrested are individuals in their 20s and 30s.

Since the 18th of this month, a total of eighteen reports have been registered across all five divisions, which includes the uprooting of marijuana plants from a local farm. While marijuana remains the predominant drug seized, there have also been isolated cases involving methamphetamine.

ACP Driu highlighted the increasing support from the community, noting a rise in requests for police-led awareness initiatives in partnership with various organizations. He underscored the significance of maintaining public trust by ensuring that police officers act with integrity and contribute effectively to combating drug-related issues.

The public is urged to report any information via the hotline 917 or through Crime Stoppers at 919.
