Fiji’s Drug Battle: Young Suspects at the Center of Rising Cases

The Fiji Police Force is reporting a steady increase in cases of illegal drug possession, with marijuana being the most frequently seized substance. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, indicated that many of the individuals arrested are in their 20s and 30s.

From the 18th to today, police have recorded eighteen reports across all five divisions, which included a farm where plants suspected to be marijuana were removed. Although marijuana remains the primary drug involved, there have been some instances of methamphetamine as well.

ACP Driu highlighted the increasing support from the community, noting more requests for police-led awareness initiatives in partnership with various organizations. He emphasized the significance of public trust, assuring that police officers are committed to integrity and play a vital role in addressing drug-related issues.

The community is encouraged to provide information confidentially by calling 917 or Crime Stoppers at 919.
