Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sitiveni Rabuka urged Fiji’s Heads of Mission to prioritize the nation’s interests in the countries where they are stationed. During the inaugural session of Fiji’s Heads of Diplomatic Missions Meeting, Rabuka commended these diplomats, referring to them as ‘loyal servants of Fiji.’
He encouraged High Commissioners and Ambassadors to build upon Fiji’s longstanding commitment to peacekeeping, noting that the nation holds the distinction of being the longest-serving participant in United Nations peacekeeping missions. In addition, he announced Fiji’s proactive stance in proposing a regional framework for peace, which is expected to be endorsed at the upcoming Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.
The Prime Minister also expressed Fiji’s readiness to support Vanuatu in its rebuilding efforts following the recent devastation caused by a 7.3 magnitude earthquake. Furthermore, Rabuka plans to have individual discussions with representatives to address the specific challenges they encounter in their postings. He pointed out that two overseas missions are still awaiting confirmation from their respective host countries.
This meeting in Nasova marks a significant step in enhancing diplomatic relations and demonstrates Fiji’s commitment to regional cooperation and global peacekeeping efforts. The Prime Minister’s proactive approach and willingness to engage with the diplomats reflect a positive trajectory for Fiji’s international relations and its ability to respond to challenges faced by its neighboring nations.
