Fiji’s Diplomatic Dance: Prime Minister’s Visit Sparks Controversy

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its gratitude to the New Zealand Government for their effective coordination of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s recent visit. This appreciation follows media reports that employed racial stereotypes regarding photos of two New Zealanders who were part of the Prime Minister’s security detail.

Fiji’s High Commission in New Zealand clarified that these individuals were members of a larger security team drawn from a wide range of New Zealand society. They commended the security personnel for their professionalism, openness, and meticulousness.

The High Commission emphasized that all members of the New Zealand security detail for the Prime Minister were supplied by the New Zealand Government. They noted that the Prime Minister’s visit was successful and proceeded without any incidents, despite some changes to the schedule.
