Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged Fiji’s Heads of Mission to act in the best interests of the nation while serving abroad. During the opening of the Heads of Diplomatic Missions Meeting, Rabuka commended these diplomats as ‘loyal servants of Fiji.’

He emphasized the significant role these High Commissioners and Ambassadors could play in promoting Fiji’s long-standing commitment to peacekeeping, noting that Fiji holds the distinction of being the longest-serving country in United Nations peacekeeping operations. The Prime Minister also pointed out Fiji’s proactive stance in advocating for a regional peace initiative, which is expected to be adopted at the upcoming Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.

Furthermore, Rabuka expressed Fiji’s readiness to aid Vanuatu in its recovery efforts following the recent 7.3 magnitude earthquake, underlining the importance of regional solidarity in times of crisis. He plans to meet with each representative to discuss the unique challenges they face in their roles, mentioning that there are still two overseas postings awaiting confirmation from host countries.

As the meeting proceeds in Nasova, it represents a vital opportunity for Fiji’s leadership to strengthen diplomatic relations and enhance its global presence.

This strategic gathering reflects a hopeful outlook for Fiji as it navigates its international responsibilities, particularly in promoting peace and providing immediate support to neighboring nations in need. The emphasis on communication and addressing challenges could lead to more effective diplomatic missions in the future.
